Very important meeting this Tuesday evening on water rate - TopicsExpress

Very important meeting this Tuesday evening on water rate increases. The City needs to know we wont subsidize development that adds more stress to our water supply and strains existing infrastructure. The proposed rate increases will fund some necessary improvements to our water infrastructure. However, many of these improvements are actually driven by the new development. The connection fees for new development need to accurately reflect their cost of doing business. Otherwise, were the ones picking up the tab on our monthly water bills Our monthly water bills shouldnt be used to subsidize sprawl and intensify the harmful development practices that exhaust our limited water resources, pave over aquifer recharge areas, and pollute the urban streams that supply our lake with treatable water. Residential consumers should not shoulder the burden for this sprawl-to-the-wall, resource-intensive approach to growth. Its bad for utility customers and its bad for the City of Norman.
