Very moved to be joining Jackie Juno, the Grand Bard of Exeter and friends for a record breaking Witches tea party, in commemoration of the anniversary of the deaths of the Bideford Witches, who were the last women in England to be hanged for witchcraft in 1682. The three women were held at Rougemont in terrible conditions before being taken to nearby Heavitree (so called because the tree was heavy with the bodies of witches) where they were executed. Rougemont is also the sacred hill of the ancient Bardic Chair of Exeter (Caer Wyse). We will gather on August 31st at twelve noon by the plaque in the ruined tower (behind the library) for a short ceremony and wreath-laying, before commencing the Grand Tea Party. To qualify for the official record you must wear a black pointy witches hat, black cloak and carry a broom. The current world record for the most witches gathered together in one place is 483; currently held by Pendle Witches in Lancashire. So ladies, gents and children, tis time to rev up your broomsticks, dust off your hats and lets get together and beat the record! Hope that some of my Cornish sisters may be moved to join me especially as we step into our courage to meet as women once again for our Red Tent here in September xx
