Very ostensibly, the Russian troops are taking vacation and not going to beaches but helping pro Russia fighters in Ukraine. Thousands of Russian soldiers have been involved in Ukraine and it is likely to increase tensions with the United States and the European Union. Despite incontrovertible evidence Russia still blatantly denies any direct involvement. Mr Putin, a hard boiled product of KGB, knows that the entire nation is with him in his efforts to bring Ukraine to Russian fold. This Soviet era mindset holds no relevance in the present age and context. The United States and Europe must make clear that they are equally committed to the support of Ukraine, and that they are prepared to continue ratcheting up sanctions against Russian businesses and financial institutions, and to support Kiev through financial aid and energy supplies. Time has come to clip Mr. Putins wings and unrealistic ambitions.
