Very pretty scared girl :( Sapphire is fearful, and will need a patient and expereinced new family to help restore her confidence. Read her bio, and contact a New Hope approved rescue if you can help her tonight. Sapphire is a small, shy girl- a lost soul unable to find her footing in the unfamiliar shelter environment. She arrived frozen in fear and, for a day or two, remained hidden in the corner of her kennel trying to disappear and refusing any attempt at contact. A low growl was her warning to all. Eventually she understood that the leash and the human attached to it were a way out. Saphire accepted warily. Out in the yard she remained fearful, tiptoeing carefully, her eyes darting in every direction. It took another day or two for Saphire to finally relax enough to do her business. She is now tolerant of touch, but still unable to even lean against those shes come to recognize. Saphire has made slow, daily progress, but weve yet to meet the girl we can only imagine Saphire to be: a stunning youngster who was once a loved family pet. She came to us on a DOH hold for an unprovoked bite. A child was involved. Her owner surrender questionnaire states that she was friendly with children up until now. What happened? We see how difficult it is for Saphire to trust, how hesitant she is about making friends. She needs the kind of time and attention we cant provide. She is unsure of everything and everyone. Did Saphire ever play ball, cuddle, run like the wind, sit on command? We have never felt her tongue lick our hand. Her eyes have never softly meet our own. Saphire is all nerve endings and panic. She seems to gravitate toward other 4 legged neighbors in her same predicament. Vocalizing and instantly present, Saphire tries to communicate: Why are we here? What will happen to us? Poor Saphire. Her hero must be experienced in working with troubled dogs and committed to helping her find a way out of the trembling shell in which shes trapped. Once this journey begins, the rewards will surely follow.
