Very rarely am I not left either thoroughly mesmerized, - TopicsExpress

Very rarely am I not left either thoroughly mesmerized, emotionally moved, or just outright blown away whenever I delve into the rewarding world of French cinema. Late last night I took in a first time watch of Olivier Marchals 36 QUAI DES ORFEVRES (2004) and was all of those things and more. I will most definitely be singing the praises of this picture, ad infinitum! In fact, Ill go as far as to proclaim that it is now hands down among my very favorite examples of outstanding French crime cinema. Also known as 36TH PRECINCT, this masterpiece stars two veteran heavy hitters of Frances film industry (one far less a stranger to North American audiences than the other) - Daniel Auteuil and Gérard Depardieu. Here, theyre playing longtime colleagues with a once mutual reverence, who proceed bring out the worst of the human condition in one another when a position behind the Captains desk starts to beckon the two seasoned lawmen. The big catch has all eyes on which of the pair, through their own individual investigations, will put the lid on an ultra-violent thievery operation terrorizing the area. The cherry to the top, if you will. With it though comes loss of friendship, trust, respect, freedom, and life. A hefty toll. Also featuring a fantastic supporting cast that includes, André Dussollier, Valeria Golino, the lovely, Mylène Demongeot, Roschdy Zem, Daniel Duval, Francis Renaud, Catherine Marchal, and Alain Figlarz. AKA. 36TH PRECINCT, I encourage all police thriller and French crime flick enthusiasts alike to get on this one ASAP!!! In the meantime, heres a look at the original French trailer to give you a taste of this incredible film... #JustWatched #HighlyRecommended
