Very sadly, short story writer and novelist Alistair MacLeod died yesterday. He was a Professor Emeritus a the University of Windsor, where I did my undergraduate degree, and while I never studied with him directly, he was a warm, vital presence in the department and was always incredibly lovely and supportive. He was a force of nature in Canadian literature and had a profound impact on me as a very young writer.
