Veterans Day--my Pops was an Army officer the whole time I was growing up--I pretty much dug the life of an Army kid--we moved a lot...I spent 3 years in Germany, from the ages of 10-13, loved it...we lived in New York City, Virginia, Boston, Kansas, then when I was 13 we moved to Arizona, which was an enormous influence on the rest of my life...high school, university, work, lifestyle...my old man was in Vietnam my whole senior year of high school--which I, self-centered as only a teen can be, loved--life without a stern disciplinarian in the house--what could be better? oh yeah, it was dangerous over in Saigon--did I mention that I was self-centered? :v My dad went to Korea when I was starting 2nd grade, then after almost a year he contracted tuberculosis and spent a YEAR in a hospital; thus, 2nd and 3rd grades--I didnt see him for 2 years--no skype, no nothin. Still, I have to say he was a pretty good guy--remote emotionally--he was an infantry sergeant in WWII--when we lived in Germany hed take us on drives in northern France and show us bombed-out places, walls still cratered from grenades and bullets, where he and his company holed up, slept, and went into battle...I cant imagine what guys like him went thru in those wars--I know they shaped him in ways that I cant even guess at. An Army officers kid--its not a bad life--the Army took good care of its kids--lots to do, teen clubs, pools, and we always had a really nice house...Thanks, Colonel Anderson, for providing that life for me...Im sure you sacrificed a lot of your own individuality to be successful in your pursuits...I remember you with love, and I wish you could have met and spent time with my daughter--youd have gone nuts over her...and youd have had the same reaction over my daughters mom...and youd be happy to know that me and sister Sue are really and truly close friends...and Id give anything to be able to ask you about your experiences in the wars and the effect they had on you--I loathe wars--you knew that--but I never hated the soldiers who fought them, and thats because of you.
