Veterans Day Facebook Family and Friends. Good morning to you. I trust you slept well. I dont know why I am awake, but oh well. I was just remembering something About Veterans Day. When I was A child, Veterans Day was called Armistice Day. I was talking to Rev. Donna on Sunday evening, I told her I needed her to go to the bank on Monday. She said, Pastor Monday is a holiday. I replied. Oh yeas, Armistice Day. Her head spun around, she replied no ,Pastor, Veterans Day. I told her that when I was a child, it was called Armistice Day. She said , I never heard of that in my life. So I gave her a history lesson from the old school. Because she is the age of some of you, my Facebook friends, perhaps you also are unaware. Let me share with you. Armistice day was celebrated in honor of A cease fire of hostilities between fighting forces of World War I. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918 the war stopped. The following year it was set aside as a holiday, and became officially a Legal holiday in 1938. Then after World War II And the Korean conflict the name was changed to Veterans Day. A. Day set aside to honor all men (and now women too ) who have served in all wars. So as there is a day off school or work; as banks and government offices are closed, lets remember those who fought to keep America safe. And moreover may we never do anything to not only endanger our country ,but to endanger one another. A cease fire on our public streets would indeed be reason to celebrate. If you know a Veteran say thank you to him or her today.-Bishop Martha J. Sanders ,
