Veterans Hospitals/After the fight These are our soldiers fighting for the right Lame + wounded, after the fight. Our soldiers, born to be A special part of this country. Wanting to join from a little boy Just watching that uniform brings total joy Dreaming of what he should do Fighting for the red, white + blue Taking the oath to protect our country This young soldier, born to be. Then that day- A bomb blows this young soldier almost away Leaving him weak out of the game Bleeding, wounded, and lame. And as this soldier, looks down No legs, are found As he opens his eyes to see Those working to help him be The whispers into his ear That beautiful nurses voice he hears Don’t worry soldier you will be alright Words the Medics use after the fight He lays there as he gingerly put to sleep The medics try to save his legs + feet. Keeping him in a semi sleep for the night Those are the things done after the fight. And when it was time for him to awake The Nurses gingerly nudge + shake Reality is a powerful thing The blunt way life stings His eyes open, he realizes his limbs are gone This is after the fight + the harm What is this soldier thinking about now His what, when’s, + how’s.
