Via BBC Monitoring: Vyacheslav Matuzov, the president of the Society for Friendship and Trade Cooperation with Arab Countries and an expert on the Middle East and Islamic world, has said that Russia presented to members of UN Security Council satellite photography images confirming that the missiles with alleged chemical substances in Syria were launched from rebel-controlled area but had not publicized the fact because its "quiet diplomacy" that wanted to avoid confrontation with the USA. He was shown speaking in a studio interview on state-owned Russian news channel Rossiya 24 on 26 August. Matuzov said that Washington was not convinced about launching a military operation in Syria and was building up tension in the area in order to strengthen its position at negotiations with Russia. He also thought that US President Barack Obama was "a hostage of some extremist American circles".
