Via: Batamaloo The Real Gaza Strip Of Kashmir ICRC calls on Geelani, “Take cognizance of detainees in Indian jails”; Hurriyat to launch blood donation bank Srinagar Jun 12:A team from International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) called on Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his Hyderpora residence on Wednesday in which Chairman Hurriyat impressed upon ICRC for their cognizance andto take notice of the plight of detainees languishing in different jails in India. “They are being harassed and subjected to worst torture in jails and no proper medical facility is provided to ailing detainees,” Geelani told ICRC members and urged them toutilize more efforts in this direction. In a statement issued to Global News Service, the Hurriyat spokesman said Geelani while apprising the team about the plight of detainees said that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory, “and hence the people detained are to be treated as political prisoners as per guidelines laid by international community”. “Even Indian constitution has guaranteed the rights of political prisoners but contrary to this, they are ill-treated and subjected to vengeance and political reprisal,” the spokesman quoted Geelani as having said. Referring to tall claims of DIG prisons with respect to reformation in jails, Syed Ali Geelanisaid, “despite all this, there is no improvementand situation in jails has turned from bad to worse”. Meanwhile, the Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar in a statement issued to GNS said that Tehreek-e-Hurri yat would launch a blood donation bank on International Blood Donor Day at its party headquarters, Hyderpora on 14th June. Tehreek-e-Hurri yat in its appeal has asked all interested and generous youth to donate their blood for poor and needy. “Taking into consideration the need for deserving, the proposed blood bank, without any discretion and difference would provide its services to all those in need,” Akbar in a statement said. He said that blood donation is a humble and noble gesture and “it is the pious endeavour to help deserving people”. The blood bank has been named after Chairman Hurriyat Conference. “We have titledit “Syed Ali Geelani Blood Bank” as Geelani Sahab is a leader of national stature,” the spokesman added. (GNS)
