Via David Tarus: Allow me to talk about Ghana in comparison to Kenya. It has a population of 25.3 million people, and a budget estimate of Ksh. 1.05 trillion for 2014. Its main source of revenue is from export of minerals such as Gold & oil, it also exports cocoa. While Kenya does not benefit from any mineral revenue, except cash crops and cut flowers; and with a budget estimate of Ksh. 1.6 trillion and a population of 40 million, half of whom are hungry most times in a year. The capital of Ghana, Accra, hosts about 2.3 million people. It is a well planned city with no informal settlements. It has one of the most cordinated traffic in Africa. The city motorists use trafic lights, and few trafic police control vehicle order in few of the city roads. In Nairobi however, the oposite is true, there is little use of traffic lights and the police control all the road intersections in the city. The land tenure is mostly traditional, almost bordering communial, and most farming practices are traditional, except for Cocoa farming. The dairy sector is hardly there, and so in hotels, powder milk is used. In Kenya however, the oposite is true, land tenure is purely private and capitalistic. Farming is largely commercial, albeit small scale with diminished business sense in most instances. The dairy sector is thriving with the use of advance technologies in production, processing and distribution.Ghanian people are mostly honest, and with sense of greater self pride, independence and freedom. I am still taking more notes. Next week I will spend most of my time in the Northern region of Ghana.
