Via Pinoy OFW Filipina Helper from Leyte Falls to Death from 32-Storey Apartment in Hong Kong By PINOY OFW on November 4, 2014 A Filipina domestic worker in Hong Kong has fallen to her death from a high-rise residential block in Hong Kong. The victim was identified as 26-year-old Ruby Ann Diola, a native of Palo, Leyte. She reportedly fell from the balcony of her employer’s flat on October 23. Initial police investigation indicate there was any foul play. “The initial post-mortem report said multiple injuries found in the victim’s body matched the fact that she fell from a height,” said duty officer Sandy Lam in a report by The Sun. Lam added that around 7:30am on October 23, staff working at 31 Robinson Road called the police about the discovery of a woman’s body at the estate’s swimming pool. Upon arrival of the police it noted there were no suicide notes but found a note purportedly from the victim saying she was unhappy with her job and wanted to resign. The police will provide an update once the post-mortem examination concludes, but the entire process will take months, the duty officer added. The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong immediately reached out to her family after it received the report from the police. According to the Consulate’s head of the Assistance to Nationals section Hermogenes Cayabyab, Jr.m he is now waiting for the victim’s mother to send the documents that will allow the remains to be repatriated to the Philippines. “Through her (Diola’s) relatives and friends in Hong Kong and on social media, we were able to contact the victim’s mother in Leyte, as well as her live-in partner in Pangasinan,” Cayabyab said. Residential buildings at Robinson Road, Hong Kong. According to sources, Diola has a seven-year-old son with her common-law husband, Jessie Jose, who lives in Pangasinan. The remains of Diola will reportedly be sent to the victim’s mother as she is legally considered as next-of-kin, though Jose has requested custody. Over at social media, netizens set a buzz over Diola’s death, with some setting up a Facebook group named “Justice for Ruby Ann” on which a message reportedly posted by her husband Jessie calling for justice for his partner, saying that even before that tragic fall, Diola had been complaining about maltreatment from her employer who allegedly took her documents, iPad and not granting her day off as mandated by law. All the claims could not be independently confirmed as Mr Cayabyab, of the Philippine Consulate’s Assistance to Nationals section warned users of social media to be careful in posting information related to the incident as they could mislead and influence the pinoy-ofw/news/33727-filipina-helper-from-leyte-falls-to-death-from-32-storey-apartment-in-hong-kong.html Silver
