Via WholeWorldBand: From one Kevin to another. Our very own Kevin Godley is a big fan of WWB user Kev Rowe. Kev played guitar on one of the very first sessions we filmed for WWB. It was back in 2012 when he added some extraordinary guitar to Danny O’Reilly’s ‘CLOSER TO YOU.’ He was studying at BIMM College at the time and I thought his playing was outstanding back then. He’s since appeared on so many WWB tracks that I’ve lost count and he stuns me every time. Kev has an incredible knack for unearthing the true mood of a piece of music, be it a casual vocal knocked out for a gag, or a full-on song. His command of the instrument is second to none and everything he plays sounds like an extension of his very being. His fingers hardly seem to move at all but if I counted them I’m convinced I’d find more than ten. He can also switch between plectrum, finger-picking and slide in the one track without ever becoming intrusive and is also into wearing a different shirt for pretty much every session. Nice notes - nice wardrobe! Another element that defines Kev’s playing is character. Everything he records has a distinct personality and style, he never just slavishly twangs away. There is feel, heart and thought in equal measure and an intuition to be guided by what’s already recorded and filmed. In other words Kev adds tone and texture but never grandstands - the mark of a truly great player. When we add a social media component to WWB, which will be pretty soon, he’ll be getting plenty of likes that’s for sure.
