Via my friend, Michael Guinn, a veteran....please read! I had a very disturbing morning. It seems that every time I have to go to the VA- it gets worse. There was a lady in her sixties. I heard her talking to the Advocate because I was in the next office. She is a Viet Nam vet- she was recently evicted from her apt. because she couldnt meet the rent anymore- its gone up three times in three years. She has no family-she lives on disability-shes homeless, and sick. She began to cry as she explained how she had worked all her life...she had two stints in the Nam. She was raggedly dressed-no jacket (its cold in the mornings now)-she was destitute. Because of the budget cuts to the VA- all they could do was to try to find her shelter. She had hitchhiked from Roseville and had nothing. One of the advocates found one shelter without a waiting list in Sacramento. They told her a bus would be going there in an hour. I got my paperwork and was walking out- she was sitting in the waiting area for a bus-shivering. I told her I could drive her to Sac if she wanted. I told her she didnt need to be cold-and that I was no threat to her safety. I took her into town and dropped her off. This is a really BAD month for me financially because I just spent over $500.00 on my car. I had $12.00 on me- I gave it to her- and prayed with her as she left the car. I think the we treat our vets is a DISGRACE. To the House republicans who saw to it that Vets Benefits were cut- I say-You should be ASHAMED! You are NOT patriots- youre traitors to this country. Michael also added that the ladys name is Margaret and please pray for her and all other vets in the same boat.
