Vibhavari’s On A Roll After proving herself in Harishchandrachi Factory and Deool, actor Vibhavari Deshpande will soon be seen playing Marathi poetess Bahinabai Chaudhari Pallavi Kharade After a series of power-packed performances in the films like Harishchandrachi Factory and Deool noted actor Vibhavari Deshpande has now taken up the challenge of essaying the role of a veteran Marathi poetess Bahinabai Chaudhari in a film titled Sopanchi Aai — Bahinabai. Vibhavari says, “Bahinabai was illiterate but she has written exceptional and mind-blowing poetry. After her husband died at the age of 30, she fought against all odds to raise her three children. But in spite of the struggle, she was always positive. Her poetry was simple, profound and philosophical. She would look for spirituality even in everyday chores like grinding the foodgrain. She has explained the meaning of life through simple examples. She was simple and at the same time progressive.” Elaborating on the role, Vibhavari says, “Writer-director Kayum Kazi did a lot of research on the life and experiences of the poetess and he has brilliantly carved a story out of it. It’s not a biopic but the film essays her journey from the age of 16 to 32 years and how she managed to stay positive and write brilliant poetry while fighting with difficulties like drought, plague and raising children single handedly. Though it’s a story of her struggle, the film underlines the fact that how her poetry was happy and full of life. Her positivity, happy nature and spirituality are projected beautifully in the film.” Vibhavari says playing Bahinabai was an exceptional experience at various levels such as woman, mother, artiste and a creative writer. “Though I have played rural roles many times, finding the character’s essence was the biggest challenge. While shooting in a small village near Jalgaon, at first we tend to get irritated due to lack of facilities. But Bahinabai’s life and her poems gave us the inspiration that everybody has to go through the toiling. All of us lived that.” Many of the actors in the film are local theatre actors. “The only known actors are Kishore Kadam and Suhas Palshikar. While Kishore is playing the role of Bhinabai’s husband, Suhas plays her son,” informs Vibhavari. The film is presently in the pre-production stage. [email protected]
