Vicki Ray Brizendine says>> I am currently the guardian for my 83 year old father who has advanced dementia. He is now in hospice and does not eat, takes limited fluids (Ensure) but is still able to speak and recognize people. The problem is that when he was well, he could be very nasty or verbally abusive. He is continuing that pattern to anyone who comes into contact with including me. I am finding it harder and harder to make the trip up there to see him only to have him tell me to get the *(&^ out of his room. I tell him I will not tolerate this treatment only to be told to hit the road. It has been over a week now, and I am getting up the nerve to see him tomorrow if for no other purpose than to make sure he has his bed made, covers, clean clothes, etc....but a part of me is not up to his antics. Does anyone else have this kind of experience, and am I wrong to avoid it? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated,
