Vicki here...update on Mark... To bring you up to date a bit, there is some good news and some deeper concerning news. Good news, Dr. Pittman decided not to do an ileostomy after all. After doing several incisions in the beginning and inserting scopes he decided it would be in Marks better interest to perhaps not do this. The reason for this is (the concerning news), there was a mass on his lower right side in the secum area. It didnt look good to him and its been sent to pathology, so were waiting on results. If Mark has to go through Chemotherapy, trying to heal from surgery as well as a complicated ileostomy would be a lot on his plate for a weakened immune system to battle. Dr. Pittman said several times he hopes and prays he made the right decision....something we had prayed about with him before surgery...special wisdom! The procedure he did leaves Mark more prone to complications as well...a leakage and infection, which would require immediate surgery with an ileostomy (permanent or temporary). So these are all areas of concern for us right now...but we know God is still in control and our concerns are His, to prove Himself faithful and His healing power....and we hold fast to that! Mark was able to sit up a little bit yesterday...still very weak and a lot of pain (seemed more so yesterday). Still no food (just ice chips) ...today will be the 5th day of that. Dr. Pittman wants him to stand today and try taking some steps, several times throughout the day. He can have limited visitors (short amounts of time and must be healthy). Hes at Carmel St. Vincents Hospital, Room 214. Again, thank you for all your prayers and encouraging words...they bring peace to our hearts and smiles to our lips! :)
