Victim’s sister died of Ebola three weeks ago Fed Govt urges calm Patrick Sawyer is the second member of his family to die of Ebola virus in three weeks,according to information from Monrovia. The degree of contact between the two is now being investigated by Liberian health ministry officials said yesterday. Liberia’s finance minister Amara Konneh confirmed that Sawyer was a consultant for the country’s finance ministry. “Our understanding is that the cause of death was Ebola,” Konneh told Reuters. The Federal Government yesterday called for calm over Sawyer’s death ,saying there has been no other case of the virus in Nigeria. Addressing journalists in Abuja Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu assured Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm as necessary steps has been taken by government to contain the disease from spreading. A special information committee on Ebola has also been set up. It is headed by Information Minister Labaran Maku and is charged with the responsibility of creating awareness in the country about the disease . Measures put in place to prevent the disease include: quarantining all the passengers that travelled with Sawyer; placing all entry ports in the country on red alert; and deploying health personnel at entry points.
