Victoria Park in St. Johns will be aglow this weekend with the annual Lantern Festival, but because of the ongoing fire ban, no flames will be used. Organizers have scrambled to find enough glow sticks to replace traditional tea lights that have been used in years past. Hundreds of lanterns big and small, made of glass bottles or paper maché, have graced the skies for one night only, for the last 14 years. Co-ordinator Kate Hogan says the city has stepped up to help provide the 2,800 glow sticks that will be needed. Not knowing what the turn-out will be, Hogan says theyre asking people to, if possible, bring their own disposable lights.
