Vid. Ranjani Vasuki, who recently secured Gold Medal and First Rank in M A Music (Congratulations to her for this) along with Vid. Venkateha Joshier (the able disciple of highly respected Vid. Mysore H.k. NarasimhaMurthy) on Violin and our Ganakalashree, Layakala Pratibhaamani ( and many more) Vid. Anuru Anantha Krishna Sharma Shivu Sir on Mrudangam gave a chaste concert at Raghavendra Mutt, Banashankari. Inclement weather, moderate (quality- and quantity- wise) audience (at least, majority of them) and at the cost of sounding rude, let me say sort of indifferent organisers ... all this did not deter the young talent from coming up with quite a heavy concert (contrary, in fact, to my expectation.. knowing it was a religious venue and occasion). She did complete justice to the senior accompanying artists in the bargain. Commencing with Gajavadana Bayduve ( with brief swara prasthara) to give her a bright start, she sang Baro tande Guruvarya (Shahana) and followed it up with a soulful Aalaapane for Hindola for the kriti Endappikombe Rangayyana with swara prasthara for this as well. A Ugabhoga (a rachane of our Shataavadhani Dr. Ra. Ganesh) followed by Ninna Nambide Raghavendra (to suit the venue and the occasion) was aptly rendered following it with sweet Kambhoji raaga kriti Krishnamoorthy Kannamunde. Then, she presented the best and main item of the concert. Kalyani was the raga chosen. Stunning Aalapane, beautiful rendition of Ranganathana Noduva Banni embellishing it with Neraval at Sangitalolana and Swara Prasthara did justice to her talent. And of course, cant write enough about our Shivu Sirs tani... Heavy stuff. Few kritis Karedare barabaarade, Ishtu Dina Vaikunta, Dasanagabayku Sadashivana (a surprise item, on demand!!) and a lightning fast Hari Kunida flowed before concluding the concert with a Tillana (again a Dr.Ra. Ganesh rachane with music composition by Vid. Dr.Nagavalli Nagaraj) in raga Sumanasa Ranjani. A good concert, indeed.
