(Video 1, nominations) Not many people know my grandmother, - TopicsExpress

(Video 1, nominations) Not many people know my grandmother, Kaktherine Wang, has ALS – I didn’t tell people because few knew what it was, and I was tired of explaining the motor neuron disease. I know there is a lot of criticism of the Ice Bucket Challenge due to the drought in CA, but I think the awareness and money it has generated is worth it. ALS causes motor neuron failure and renders the patient unable to move, first large motions like walking and then progressing to an inability to talk or eat, and eventually lungs and other vital organs cease movement. ALS is an incredibly difficult progression to watch, because although the suffering person cannot move, they are still fully able to feel pain and are still fully conscious and aware. It is as though the patient slowly becomes trapped in his or her own immobile body. My whole family partook in the challenge together, and I now challenge Zoë Fuchs and Emily Lam, take this thing to Iceland! Donate to: alsa.org
