Especially by the presence of the Ranger backup. IMO, if Eagle Claw had made it to the hostage complex, and it was a complex, they probably would have pulled the actual rescue off. Its egress to the soccer stadium and extraction where it would have been a blood bath. And I question Jimmy Carters fortitude to send in rescue forces for the rescue forces. But I have heard from those involved and they all say they do give Jimmy Carter major credit for having the guts to try. Im not a fan of Carter, but I have to grant him that. Eagle Claw forced the US to take Special Ops seriously. And that mission taught us a lot that paved the way for our successes today. Marky ow.ly/HUy2V
