Video Games as a strong medium of telling a story by JayKrishnan M ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Video Games has come a long way in terms of telling a story since the 8 bit era.Evolution of Graphics and Technology has allowed Developers to insert more focus on the story and characters in terms of presentation.Games like PlaneScape:Torment,The Last of Us,Indigo Prphecy,Heavy Rain and Bioshock has proven this.From the amnesiac immortal of Torment to the gritty life of Joel and the underwater city of Rapture has shown as what Video Games are capable of.But yet they are not receiving the recognition they deserve.Hollywood directors George Lucas and Steven Spielberg has said that Games are not a medium to tell a good story.But we have lived the lives of The Nameless One,Lucas Kane,Jack and perhaps found them fleshed out or expressing as much as movie characters.Some say each media is its own thing.But I believe Video Games are capable of telling a story on par with films and maybe even books.What do you think?Have you felt the same way? (p.s its my first micro article and sorry for the crappy picture,did it in a hurry!)
