View From The Old Farm House-Stan Hitchcock Cragfont, the historic home that Denise serves on the Board of Directors, for the preservation and upkeep, had their Annual Christmas Open House today. The ladies had decorated the house and made cookies and Hot Cider and the turnout was great. I went over for awhile a took a few pictures of this beautiful piece of history. General James Winchester was the builder and he had a masterpiece erected. The house was started in 1788 and finished in 1802. Cragfont was built by craftsmen imported from all over Europe, some of them Shipbuilders of great skill. The rafters and support beams of the roof are constructed like an upside down wooden ship, put together with wooden pegs. Denise and I have a Passion for Historic Homes and the Preservation of them. We have been involved in the Historic Homes of Sumner County for many years, and Cragfont is one of the great ones still standing. It is always a treat to be in the old Mansion and enjoy the craftsmanship that is so evident. If you are ever in Middle Tennessee you should make a trip out to Sumner County and come see this piece of history. Cragfont is located about 8 miles North East of Gallatin just off of Highway 25. stan
