View from the Vicarage: This Sunday finds me somewhere in Africa. I will be worshipping with local Christians in the Isiolo Area, North East of Mount Kenya. Kenya is three hours ahead of the UK so when you start your service at 10am, it will be 1pm in Isiolo. There is every likelihood we will still be dancing a singing God’s praises – Kenyan services sometimes last several hours! (They don’t often start on time either – Kenyan Christians would be very bemused by the ‘three service’ system at Holy Trinity!) Although we are not together this Sunday, we are part of the worldwide Christian family worshipping God on his Sabbath. One of my favourite hymns is ‘The day thou gavest Lord is ended.’ And my favourite verse is: ‘The sun that bids us rest is waking Our brethren ’neath the western sky, And hour by hour fresh lips are making Thy wondrous doings heard on high.’ I love the idea of the baton of prayer being passed around the world from community to community. Christians in South Woodham Ferrers and Kenya are joined together this day, not because of me, but because Christians throughout the world are joined together in worship on this and everyday – we are all one family. I will be thinking of you all, and praying for you! And if the service I am attending IS still going at 1pm in Isiolo, I will be very ready to pass the prayer baton on! Bwana Asifiwe! (Praise the Lord!) With love and prayers from a roaming Reverend Carol
