View original footage of post-war Purim celebration This Purim celebration was held in 1946 at Yehoshua and Hennie Birenbaum’s Children’s Home in Amsterdam, Holland. The Childrens Home was located in the Joodse Invalide (a well-known Jewish institution in the city). Purim is traditionally one of the most joyous holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination. It is customary to hold celebrations on Purim, to perform plays and parodies.
