Views From My Window - Tuesday, January 13, 2015 - 8:10 PM My life is becoming less clear as time goes by which is one of the reasons I dont attend city council meetings as frequently as I used...But thats not the only reason. The major reasone is because this was the city council team I expected to address problems of the common man, but it hasnt. It is the same old Status Quo oriented insider creeps. Our councilmember are all fully aware of the large population of needy people who go neglected day after day. Furthermore, many of our ordinances are geared toward the needy because they are less inclined to complain. Im talking about the minimum wage laborers. It estimated we have 40,000 or more workders who earn around the minimum wage. with no one to look our for their interests and, because they are low income cannot affort to build a defense for themselves, hire lawyers, hold meetings and organize. Moreover, this city council has the opportunity to create more jobs and increase wages, but it ignores investing where those investments will pay good dividends. I have tried to get the city council interested in two main ventures that would create financial advantages for our city and provide jobs for the people who need them the most. They are a sports complex that would feature professional boxing in a city creating a repurtation for its large number champion quality professional boxers. Lets face the truth. BOXING IS A MEXICAN FAVORITE SPORT and because it is, the highlly influential members of our city council, Mayor Tim Flynn and Councilman Bryan MacDonald are not interested in the Hispanic community and their favorite sports. Neither Tim nor Bryan would care about Pro boxing like they do the Dallas Cowboys. They will go to football practes every day to meet with and talk to football participants, but have they ever gone to the several boxing training facilities to talk to the boxers and the many, many small children who put the streets aside to be around the boxing teams. This is of no interest to Tim and Bryan, what do they care if the boxing programs, many of which are donated by the boxing businesses, give free tutoring classes and work outs to children who otherwise could not afford them. Furthermore, when do we here a council member announce the generosity that emerges from professional boxing to direct otherwise delinquent kids to the sport of boxing. In these circles young kids make friends in place of enemies. They take frustrations out in the rings and the training bags instead of fighting in the streets and alleys. We, all of us should encourage our city council to increase interest where it can thrive and do some real good. One of the distractions for the city cocuncil is the PAL (Police Athletic League) which takes police officer work time and money to run, nevertheless Tim and Bryan will only promote what is to the advantage of the Oxnard police. This is blatantly unfair. It isnt easy for young Mexican boys to participate in police activities where the officers attending the programs may be and are some of those who have killed their older brothers.
