Views expressed by the author are his/her own. What sense does this common disclaimer make? Does it mean by implication that those who do not use the disclaimer are expressing others viewpoints? If one uses others viewpoints or ideas previously expressed or published, its normally indicated through quotes and citations. Beyond that, its understood that what you said can only be your own opinion. Of course, it may be sometimes necessary for those who are holding official positions when they express themselves at a personal level. But, when the same is used even for independent writers, it becomes a little amusing. I dont know, though, how much legal protection the disclaimer give to the publishers.
