Viking Air Limited of Victoria, British Columbia continues to deliver multiple Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft worldwide. Included in the group of recent aircraft deliveries is Viking’s 50th production Series 400 Twin Otter, delivered to MASwings, of Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. MASwings, a subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, is the largest commercial operator of the Series 400, having taken delivery of five of a total six aircraft from their initial purchase agreement. All six aircraft will be utilized as regional commuters throughout Malaysia, and are adding to MASwings existing fleet of legacy Twin Otters operating in the interior of Sabah and Sarawak, the two Malaysian states in Borneo. Global Aerospace Logistics (GAL) based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, have also accepted delivery of three Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft, bringing their total to five aircraft accepted to date. GAL is an original launch customer for the Series 400 Twin Otter, having placed their initial nine aircraft order in 2009, and are providing the specially equipped Series 400 Twin Otters to the UAE Government under a multi-year service contract. The aircraft are configured with paratroop provisions and intermediate flotation gear (“IFG”) to enable the Government’s operations on the loose sand in the Arabian Gulf region. Vityaz Avia of Moscow, Russia, have now received four aircraft of their eleven aircraft purchase agreement, delivered in a variety of configurations including landplane, amphibious floats, and wheel/skis, in order to increase the versatility of the fleet operating in the many remote and diverse areas of the country. The Peru Air Force has taken delivery of two aircraft since the start of 2014, bringing their total to seven Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft received to date. The Peru Air Force have ordered a total of twelve aircraft, in 19-passenger configuration on both wheels and floats, primarily being utilised for infrastructure support to the remote regions of Peru. Deliveries have also continued with the Vietnam Navy contract, with the arrival of the third Series 400 Twin Otter at the Navy’s base in Nha Trang in early April. The Navy have a total of six aircraft on order, configured for amphibious float operations with convertible interiors for standard passenger, VIP, and utility seating. Three of the Vietnam Navy Twin Otter aircraft are being delivered as Guardian 400 military variants, to be used for maritime surveillance, search and rescue, transport, resupply, and other specialized government operations. “The Twin Otter Series 400 continues to see unparalleled demand as the undisputed and unrivalled market leader in the twin turboprop utility and commuter market,” commented Richard Libby, Viking Director of Aircraft Sales. He continued, “Market acceptance for the aircraft has been overwhelmingly positive, with worldwide demand bolstering Viking’s production backlog, now stretching into late 2016.”
