Villagers Threaten Mass Migration in Kashmir if CRPF Camp is Not Remove Posted by admin Srinagar ,Sep 28: Residents of Gagren in Indian administered Kashmir Saturday threatened to migrate en masse if an armed forces’ camp was not removed from their village. The camp which is housed in an industrial unit was involved in the killing of five persons which sparked off massive protests in southern part of Indian administered Kashmir. Local administration had imposed severe curfew which lasted for more than a fortnight to foil protests by villagers. The curfew was followed by a complete shutdown in the village against the killings. On Saturday, representatives of local traders, lawyers, prominent citizens, drivers, fruit growers and religious leaders met at a local mosque and decided to call off a civil curfew that has crippled life in Shopian town. The meeting was also attended by the representative of pro-Pakistan Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani. It was decided that normal life will resume in Shopian on Sunday, “A deadline of October 10 has been set for shifting the 14th battalion of CRPF camp. In case the camp is not moved, the villagers of Gagren will migrate en masse from the area,” a local of Shopian who attended the meeting told Authint Mail. There will be a complete shutdown on October 4 to press the demand of shifting the camp to be followed by a peaceful sit in. A shutdown will also be observed on October 7.
