Vincent DeLuise DAVIDE PENITENTE KV 469 ! AT MOZART WOCHE ! Those of you fortunate enough to be at Mozart Woche in Salzburg in a few weeks will have the rare opportunity to hear Mozarts cantata Davide Penitente (sometimes spelled Davidde Penitente), KV 469. The text for Davide is by the librettist and music historiam Saverio Mattei (1742-1795) (and not Da Ponte. as was previously thought). Those of you with good aural memory will recognize immediately that Davide is actually Mozarts great cminor mass KV 427 in new clothes ! Of course ! Mozart used large portions of KV 427 and then added two sublime new solos at the end. These were written for the tenor Valentin Adamberger and the soprano Caterina Cavalieri. I see that all three performances are sold out ! Of course they would be ! Who wouldnt want a chance to be In Salzburg, in Mozarts footsteps, hearing the c minor mass rechanneled as this sublime cantata, Davide Penitente.
