★ Vinod is one of the few Hindi actors who began their acting career in Bollywood by playing villains and moved on to play the heroes. ★ He was born to Kamla and Kishanchand Khanna, his father was a textiles, dyes and chemicals businessman. ★ He became a follower of the spiritual teacher Osho (Rajneesh) and left the film industry in 1982 for 5 years when he was at the height of his success as an actor. ★ He moved to Rajneeshpuram, Oshos commune in the USA and for about 5 years, he cleaned the dishes there and worked as Oshos gardener. ★ Vinod and Amitabh Bachchan have worked together in 10 films. He was the only Bollywood actor ever in 1970s who came close to Amitabh Bachchans top position. ★ In 1997, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was elected from Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab. He is currently the sitting MP from Gurdaspur. ★ He also ventured into television where he played the male lead role of Kashinath in Hindi serial Mere Apne which aired on the channel 9X.
