Vinyl from the Vaults No. 43 X-ray Spex - Germ Free Adolescents (1978) Decisions Decisions! 1979. I was an impressionable 14 year old. My favourite band were The Clash and news had broken that their next LP would be a double! For me, this meant saving extra pocket money as a double LP was likely to cost a whopping £4.99! Having saved up enough for the big day, I eagerly made my way to the local record shop to buy the much anticipated London Calling. Impulse got the better of me that day. Oddly, I put London Calling back on the shelf, and chose THIS album instead! I stand by that decision today. Germ Free Adolescents remains my favourite album from the 70s punk era. For the most part, punk was still very male dominated. Poly Styrene, with her clever songs about every day life changed all that. This isnt my original copy of the LP. The first pressing had a sepia tone montage of test tubes on the inner sleeve. This coloured vinyl reissue is from the early 80s. As for London Calling? Well luckily, I soon got that one too!
