Violators to lose licences for 6 months......... THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The regional transport offices of the MVD will soon install CCTV cameras. The decision was announced by transport commissioner Rishi Raj Singh at a state level meeting of senior department officers at the transport commissionerate on Saturday. The aim is to monitor each office 24X7 so as to curb corruption, at least inside the office. The cameras will also monitor whether brokers and intermediaries enter office premises. The camera clippings will be closely monitored by a team deployed at the transport commissionerate round the clock. The tender for purchasing and installing cameras will be floated at the earliest, said sources at the commissionerate. The meeting also decided to suspend the driving licences of traffic rule violators for six months. "At present, driving licence is suspended only for three months. Road safety awareness classes, especially for youngsters, would continue, and funds have already been allotted to each RTOs," said a senior officer. The department hopes to strengthen its routine patrolling, inspection drives and services to public once the new batch of AMVIs join the force after a three-month-long training programme to be conducted at Kerala Police Academy, Thrissur.TOI
