Violence: Well, the thing with violence is that it has always been this way (Not guns and bombs obviously, but violence), but now it is easier to hear about it than it ever was in the past. According to most studies in violence throughout history, we are at our most peaceful now. We no longer legally use torture until death as a legitimate form of punishment. We no longer burn strange people and we no longer rape and then stone women we dont like just because we dont like them or because they sleep with more than one person. The problem with news is you dont hear about the millions of children who walk home safely, all the women who dont get beaten daily and the 99% of the world not in a war zone. Id say that is progress, but of course we are far from being peaceful. You may of been able to leave a door unlocked, and nothing may of happened to it. And in many places that is true. But now we are careful to prevent something that rarely happens (Depending on area and possession obviously). You can have good areas yes, a good community yes, but you will always have violence and the potential of it no matter where you are. A perfect example is racism, yes it still exists and that is terrible but compare it to the early 1900 where blacks were publicly hung on lamp-posts and ears taken home as trophies...and you begin to see the difference in times. We feel that shouldnt be that way now, but I wouldnt consider it any worse than it ever was. Its a gradual process and I think in general, things are much better and getting better. Marcus writing
