Virginia Legislative Black Caucus Endorses Kevin Sullivan for Morrissey Seat For Immediate Release Contact: Aubrey Sylvester (804) 938-2340 December 30, 2014 Richmond – Today the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus (VLBC) wholeheartedly endorsed Democrat Kevin Sullivan for the 74th House District seat, being vacated by Joe Morrissey. Senator Mamie Locke, chair of the VLBC stated, “Mr. Morrissey’s reprehensible conduct and subsequent conviction, involving an underage African-American girl disqualifies him from serving in the General Assembly. We strongly endorse Kevin Sullivan, the Democratic candidate, who we know will stand up for our Democratic values, stand by our president and behave in the dignified, honorable way that we expect of our leaders.” The VLBC had previously called on Mr. Morrissey to resign from the House of Delegates and not stand for election. They had issued a statement from Chairwoman Locke which said in part, “I, along with my colleagues, should not allow silence to serve as acquiescence, providing a wink and nod to the criminal behavior that Delegate Morrissey has admitted to having committed. Serving as a Democratic member of the General Assembly means that, at a minimum, one seeks equality of opportunity and dignity for everyone. This includes the basic human right to not be preyed upon, especially in the workplace. He has abused his position of authority and his continued service brings blight on an institution that has stood as an inspiration for democracies for over 400 years.” The VLBC membership consists of all the African-American members of the Virginia General Assembly. ### Paid for and Authorized by the House Democratic Caucus
