Virginia State University - Believe the Hype! The Virginia State University football team held its’ second scrimmage of preseason camp and once again the defense showed how strong it was controlling most of the session. The difference in today’s scrimmage was the Trojans weren’t penalized as much as they were in their first scrimmage. “The guys and I try to work on a progression scale; keeping everything on defense as simple as possible and building as we go,” said Defensive Coordinator Jerry Holmes. “After these two scrimmages, the guys are in a phase as far as learning the system.” VSU begins preparing and adding in new schemes for Saturday, Sept. 6 kickoff at California, Pa. when they face California University of Pennsylvania at Adamson Stadium. The contest is slated for 1 p.m. (ET). “Our main focus here is to play sound each and every snap of the ballgame,” said Holmes. “If we can be consistent with that, we’ll be able to play fast, use our ability to get to quarterbacks and make plays. We have the force and the niche, so just being fundamentally sound (making sure tackles, running to the ball at all time, communicating, etc.) gives us an advantage.” The Trojans wrap up their preseason camp next Saturday, Aug. 30 during VSU Athletics’ annual Meet the Trojans Day (Back to School Edition) at Roger Stadium. School supplies will be given away FREE to kids, grades K-12. Season tickets for VSUs 2014 home football schedule are on sale now. Season ticket packages are $100 (including parking). We hit them mouth from first snap today and never let up.” On the play of fellow linebackers Andrew Faison, Jr. and Geo Feggins…. “Both contribute a lot to the team and the linebacker core. They bring a lot of energy and keep tempo going throughout the entire game and practice. Drew and Geo are always motivating the team and the guys around them. They are just good guys to have by your side.” govsutrojans/
