Visa Problems Storm Ivory Coast. Ivory Coast’s ever-present national supporters group are bemoaning their inability to secure visas to travel in time for the Afcon. The Ivorian National Committee of Supporters (CNSE), known for their rhythmically correct choreography amid dancing and singing in support of the Elephants at international tournaments, have been preparing feverishly to travel to Equatorial Guinea for the Afcon. They however, are in the dark over being able to set off in time due to complexity in visa procedures. “I find it curious that we are being requested to provide criminal records to go watch a football match. We do not understand, its complicated, totally absurd and disheartening. Our foreign minister must also send a request to his Equatorial Guinea counterpart.” “Now, we must either move to Benin or Ghana for visa because there is no consulate in Abidjan,” CNSE’s group conductor, Emile Gnahoulou bemoaned in an interview with Le Monde. This national supporters group has been operating for more than 30 years – formally established at the 1984 Afcon after an initial three years of preparations. They receive support from the Ivorian Sports Ministry. It is we who have invented this way to support our team; Nigeria and Senegal have followed us, he bragged, recalling that the CNSE had received commendations several times, including that of the president of Kenya at the 1987 All-Africa Games. One of CNSE’s executives has been dispatched with the passports of the selected supporters to cheer on the Ivory Coast team to Ghana to work on their Equatorial Guinea visas. About 200 fans are expected to be flown to Malabo via a chartered plane.
