Vision 2016 or Delusion 2016 - Anti-Rice Importation. Another scheme by Dictator Jammeh... But, more on this later as we go along. Burning Issue of the day....The United States government, on this day, December 23, 2014, removed the Jammeh Juntas eligibility from the American Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) to be effective January 1, 2015. In short, AGOA was established by the United States in 2000 ( signed into law by President Bush in 2004), to help farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa, trade in the worlds biggest and most lucrative market. To help African farmers compete with U.S. agricultural producers, AGOA s embedded preferential benefits were meant to make it easy to enter the market. It goes without saying that no country, especially Gambia, can develop without trade, period. Every country has a comparative advantage in producing something, to sell the surplus to the world in order to be able to acquire goods and services that you cannot produce efficiently. Therefore, as a country open to the outside for budiness, you need more trade, more markets, not less or fewer. So this action by the Obama administration, to effectively shut off agricultural products, under the Jammeh watch, cannot be downplayed by the Kaniliar loyalists, apologists, and denial specialists. This is a big deal for a poor country like Gambia. Just another nail in the coffin of this carnival from Kanilai struggling to hold the dam of what is to come. But behold , just watch out for the APRC propaganda machine and griots come out swinging, and dismissive of yet another targeted move, to slowly punish this irresponsible and callous gang of thieves in Banjul. Why force the hopeless youths to go back to the farm when they have no markets to sell their products,...when the Dictators bad governance and human rights record is turning the world against the country?. This action by the White House will soon be followed by restrictive travel and financial sanctions, to make it costly for anyone associating or working with this regime. There are accepted global and international standards and norms of behavior, Jammeh only ignores it at his own peril. Jammeh has no leverage against Europe or the United States, he has a lot of exprience with empty rhetoric and idiocy, but remember that empty barrels make the most noise. Sooner rather than later, the Jammeh regime will become contagious and toxic to touch, because , once the inner circle gets placed on the No Travel List, they will lose opportunity to shop for cigarettes, wines, perfume, or visit their carefully and quietly placed family member in American colleges, at our ecoense, of course. Back to Vision 2016, aka, Delusion 2016...this new scheme by Jammeh is anti trade, and anti growth. Gambians need policies that will help create wealth,so people have the freedom change their diet if they choose to. Gambians should not be content with just growing food for cunsumption, they will never create wealth that way. They need the choice to engage in agricultural activities, where they can be able to sell the surplus to create savings or invest in other businesses. After twenty years of illegally holding on to power, the APRC government is forcing people to do what they have already been doing, and that is to feed themselves. This misguided rice production will reach a saturation point, and people will not be able to sell the surplus because there would be too much in stock. This haphazard policy is seizing ancestral lands to engage in a labor intensive, capital intensive scheme, while ignoring natural and economic factors which Jammeh cannot control. Simple economics dictates that if its cheaper to import rice or any product, that is exactly Gambia should do, and not engage in foolish and costly nationalism, twenty years late. The government needs to create the free market environment , through responsible policies, where people on their own, can afford the basic necessities of life without sacrificing their wealth and limb to the government! Dont you think? Just saying... The Vision 2016 or shall we call it Delusion 2016, is the biggest confiscation, largest land grab, nationalization, and transfer of wealth ever, from poor farmers to the Jammeh regime and family holdings (KGI). The only source of assets and wealth for Gambians, especially, farmers, is ancestral lands or plots. These pieces of fixed assets can always be converted into needed cash in times of emergency of needsp, either to invest in business, build a new home, pay for the education of their children,or simply to travel. These lands can also be bequeathed to future generations as wealth. Yaya Jammeh has no understanding of the land tenure system, and cares less about the fundamental pillar of capitalism, which is the private ownership of property and capital. He has tried and failed to impose development from the top, now he has realized, twenty years later, his subjects are starving and getting thinner , and sicker by the day, so he concocted this visual and illusion to create rice fields to rival those of Thailand, Japan, or Malaysia, but our land is not as blessed with water! If this policy is not reckless and irrespondible, I dont know what is. Whst happened to the evaluation and budgets of the past Visions? What other Visions can we expect in the future? How about the Vision to provide reliable, dependable, affordable, evenly distributed, energy supply, the driving force behind development and capitalism ? The only place enjoying uninterrupted supply of energy if Kanilai, fat our expense, while major industrial areas are keft wanting....Need I say more? I rest my case... Please Share on Facebook , Like us and come back for more, ...because we got a lot more from where that came from. There is no bad news day with Yaya Jammeh . ..Good night my friends.
