Visionary leadership “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18) The fundamental purpose of the book of Proverbs is to give man wisdom and instruction on how to live in accord with the principles of God’s moral law. Wisdom, in the Hebrew sense of the word, enables man to live successfully in the world created by God. In Proverbs, God reveals this wisdom to all men and nations through proverbial sayings that teach wisdom by means of a comparison or analogy. The wisdom of Proverbs covers all areas of life: personal, family, business, education, and politics. The proverb that is the subject of this object reveals God’s wisdom for the sphere of vision. Throughout history, great changes have been led by individuals who had a great Vision, and were able to communicate that vision to others. Visionary leaders are the builders of a new dawn, working with imagination, insight, faith and boldness. They present a challenge that calls forth the best in people and brings them together around a shared sense of purpose. They are social innovators and change agents, seeing the big picture and thinking strategically. Visionary leadership is based on a balanced expression of the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical dimensions. It requires clear vision, mission, core values, empowering relationships, and innovative action. When one or more of these dimensions are missing, leadership cannot manifest a vision. The most important source of godly leadership is vision. Nothing noble or noteworthy on earth was ever done without vision. Vision consists of foresight, insight and oversight that come from God’s sight (Divine source). A true visionary leader must, therefore, train himself to perceive the future needs with a godly perspective. Leaders think about the future most of the time. They think about where they are going rather than where they have been. They think about the opportunities of tomorrow rather than focusing on the problems of the past. Visionary Leadership is where all people are empowered because they have already owned for themselves the vision of their leader. The leader has already planted the seeds of the organizational vision in their hearts. And this vision is growing. The more powerful the vision is, the more cohesive and committed the individual members of the organization are. This vision which is exemplified by the leader must be all consuming so as to bring out the best in people even in the most challenging times. This vision must be powerful so as to encourage everybody to rise up to the call of the vision and spend their lives in a single minded pursuit of this vision. Visionary leadership aligns all people in its organization to share this higher purpose and work for the goals with creativity, joy, and inspiration, and imagination. Visionary Leaders inspire others because they are inspired themselves. They are excited about the possibility of creating an exciting future for themselves. They get up every morning and they see every effort they make as part of a great plan to accomplish something wonderful with their lives. Visionary Leaders are optimistic. They see opportunities in everything that happens, positive or negative. They look for the good in every situation and in every person. They seek the valuable lessons contained in every problem or setback. Visionary Leaders have a sense of meaning and purpose in each area of their lives. They have clear, written goals and plans they work on every day. Visionary Leaders are clear about where they are going and what they will have to do to get there. Their behavior is purposeful and goal-directed. Visionary Leaders accept personal responsibility. Visionary Leaders never complain, never explain. Instead of making excuses, they make progress. Visionary Leaders see themselves as victors over circumstances rather than victims of circumstances. They dont criticize or blame others when something goes wrong. Instead, they focus on the solution. Visionary Leaders are action-oriented. They are constantly in motion. They try something, and then something else again. They never give up. Visionary Leaders have integrity. They tell the truth at all times. They live in truth with themselves, and they live in truth with others. A vision from the Lord creates a mission from heaven. Therefore Visionary leadership never ends; only leaders end. Visionary Leadership determines the mentality, the destiny, the attitude, and the commitment of the followers. Visionary Leadership can change the mindset and mentality of the followers. Visionary Leadership can create action where there was hesitation; courage where there was cowardice; optimism where there was cynicism, and strength where there was weakness. A Visionary leader can create a spirit of hope where there was despair. You can only lead people to the degree of the future that you have gone yourself. The act of Visionary leadership is taking people from where they are to where they have never been before. Visionary Leaders should focus on developing future leaders; we must not just focus on change immediately but focus on those who will bring about change in the future. The reason for followership is Visionary leadership. You follow a godly, visionary leader so that you too can become a godly visionary leader. We must realize that a visionary leader believes that nothing is without a solution and that there is not just one way to resolve problems. They never surrender to limitations and are not afraid of problems. You will never do anything great unless you are willing to face challenges. People who are afraid of problems never accomplish success. Visionary Leaders are willing to try anything once. People, who do not venture, never have an adventure. God is a God of adventure. He told Abraham that He would take him to a place that he did not know. Visionary Leaders engage the unknown with vision, faith and courage. You have to be a visionary and courageous to be innovative.
