Visitacion Valley Middle School in San Francisco is located in a rough area, where gunfire is common and murders are so frequent that the school has a full-time grief counselor. This has resulted in aggressive and absentee students. However, the school adopted the TM program in 2007, and since then they have reportedly seen suspensions drop 45 percent in just the first year. Attendance rates climbed to 98 percent and 20 percent of graduates are going to an elite high school.
