Visitor: Your god seems to have the same exact unprovable qualities as every other god ever believed in. He also seems to find adherents in exactly the same manner as every other religious faith, cultural inheritance. You are unfortunately blinded by strong confirmation bias. Look into it if you truly care about what is actually true. Response: ____ Thanks for your thoughts. To respond to them, I was brought up in an atheistic household and never stepped foot in a church until, by Gods grace, I investigated world religions on my own in college. Like you I rejected God, until I didnt..There I was initially attracted to many other religions, at first but they somehow fell short and the truth of the Scripture acted as an irresistible call. Other views, including my previous atheism no longer held any charms for me. Christianity just rang true while other worldviews rang hollow and internally inconsistent. I believe in Christianity precisely because I am convinced it is actually true and makes the most sense of the data ... much more than any other worldview. Christianity may be culturally inherited by some in the USA but in the places of its most rapid growth in the world, the opposite is true. In the places where there is no cultural imprint whatsoever, Christianity has grown the most. China is a great example of this where poor people with absolutely no financial or cultural benefit from becoming Christian, turn to Christ in the millions. Historically Christianity has likewise grown the most in places with no Christian culture whatsoever. The Christianity in the US is not vibrant and growing as it is elsewhere because a lot of it is mostly not a real Christianity but culturally inherited therapeutic, moralistic deism.... so this, I would argue, essentially refutes your theory. And I could just as easily argue that Christianity does not seem plausible to you because of your own cultural biases. It is easy to be an atheist where it is culturally hip and embraced by the coolest character on every other pop TV show. But to somehow claim objectivity for yourself while all others are biased would be the height of arrogance. We all have biases and I think you know this .. to not recognize your own is to see yourself as some kind of deity.
