Vital factor God decided to give us life through the true message he sent to us. - James 1:18 (ERV) The biography of Geoffrey Bull, a British missionary to Tibet who was captured and imprisoned by Chinese Communists, tells how his captors took his possessions from him, threw him in a series of prisons, robbed him of his Bible, and subjected him to a bevy of tortures and other abuses for three years. Bull said he survived the miserable conditions by systematically going over the Scriptures in his mind. He discovered it took him about six months to go all the way through the Bible mentally. He started at Genesis and recalled each story as best he could by concentrating first on the content before focusing on certain points in prayer. “The strength received through the meditation,” Bull later wrote, “was, I believe, a vital factor in bringing me through, kept by the faith to the very end.” Today, it’s possible you’re experiencing your own psychological attacks, maybe from holiday stress or perhaps even from heartache or depression brought on by the season. Whatever the case, let His Word be your vital factor in discovering comfort and hope as you seek Him. What other book, indeed. Anticipate how God’s Word is going to be alive in you today!
