Vitamin C - Should you be using a topical Vitamin C Serum? If - TopicsExpress

Vitamin C - Should you be using a topical Vitamin C Serum? If you live in Australia, the answer is probably yes! Lets learn a bit more about this powerful anti-oxidant. Vitamin C slows down the ageing process by preventing damage from free radicals. It has been clinically shown to regenerate collagen in the skin... meaning decreased wrinkles and fine lines.... yay! Living in Australia, most of us have a reasonable amount of sun damage despite our best efforts. Vitamin C can also lighten sun damage (pigmentation) and brighten your overall complexion. It also assists in strengthening capillaries. As a general rule, use your Vit C Serum in the morning as it provides a small amount of UV protection... certainly not enough to throw away your sunscreen.... but every bit helps in the Australian environment. Having high levels in your diet is important, but doesnt translate to having high levels in your skin. A well formulated Vitamin C Serum, applied topically, is the only way to ensure effective amounts are present in your skin. Be wary of supermarket/pharmacy products saying they contain Vitamin C - sure they do, but the molecules are highly unstable, and destroyed easily rendering them inactive. It may help moisturise a little, but certainly wont have all the fantastic benefits of using a stablised, active Vitamin C (It wont stop the manufacturers advertising the properties of Vitamin C though). Again, you get what you pay for! So with decreasing sun damage, reducing pigmentation & wrinkles, you can see why a lot of anti-aging and whitening products contain this fantastic ingredient.
