Vitamin D deficiency is an epidemic especially in the winter. Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin--- its actually not a vitamin at all its a hormone. Its tightly connected with estrogen and effects over 2000 areas in the body. Low sunlight exposure and stress depletes vitamin D. The sunlight/eye receptor combination along with the vitamin D the sun produces as it hits our skin is a serotonin stimulator ... Thats the chemical in our brain that makes us happy. So the winter blues could be caused by this deficiency. Even though its cold outside try to absorb some D through your skin and foods like milk and fortified whole grain cereals. You should not over protect your skin from sun exposure. 10-20 min is all you need. Your body needs vitamin D so soak it up and get happy!
