Vladimir Putin just banned US & EU food imports. There ought to be a big thank you for sanctions coming from Latin America, especially Brazil and Argentina. His energy moves are yet to come. Thirty years ago energy exporters had to worry about losing market share. Not any more! Its a given Ukraine is shut off on gas this winter. They owe Russia $5 billion, are on pay as you go, and any of their scant money is going to the IMF & western banksters first (its why we are in Ukraine). So in turn, European nat gas supplies from Russia are questionable. Spot market price run ups are already reflecting this. KaChing for Russia. On oil, Russia exports 8 million bls/d, Europe net imports 8 and the U.S. net imports nearly 6. If gas transmissions are curtailed the only real alternative is oil. KaChing for Russia. The EU and US economies are shaky. They wont be able to handle $125- $140 oil. Putins got a strong hand. Cut back on gas, especially to East Europe and the Mediterranean who cant pay anyway, raise nat gas prices to Western Europe, cut back moderately on westbound Russian oil exports, disrupt the Baku-Ceyhan PL, watch the continued chaos in the Mideast, watch oil prices escalate, western economies shrink and go on vacation in the Crimea.
