Although the Spartans lost, their bravery is remembered. Salamis: A mighty victory by the outnumbered Athenian navy over the Persian navy in a narrow strait outside Athens in 480 BC. Plataea: A combined Greek force defeats the Persians in 479 BC, ending the Persian Wars.
