Vocalist June Misty Miss Christy was born Shirley Luster in Springfield, Il., November 20, 1925. After graduating from high school she headed to Chicago, where she landed a job with progressive jazz orchestra leader Boyd Raeburn and changed her name to Sharon Leslie. In 1945 She Joined Stan Kentons band and changed her name to June Christy. Her hits with Kenton include Shoo Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy, the million-selling Tampico in 1945, and How High the Moon. Tampico was Kentons biggest-selling record.
