Vocations Appeals 17th/18th January 2015 This last weekend I continued my monthly visits to parishes around the diocese to preach about vocations, and in particular God’s call to the Priesthood. On this visit I preached at the churches of St Andrew and Blessed George Haydock in Cottam and its twin parish St Mary’s in Lea Town. Their parish priest, Canon Adrian Towers, himself a former teacher in Ushaw Seminary made me very welcome, as did the people of these parishes, some of whom I have known for quite a few years. It is always encouraging to see, when I visit parishes, the generosity of the People of God in their prayer and the love they have for the Eucharist, both of which were evident at Cottam and Lea Town. As I usually do, I spoke of the vital need for us all to pray that God will send us priests, but also that our priests must come from our own parishes, indeed our own families. These Lancashire country parishes have a great Catholic heritage, and we hope and pray that they will continue to be beacons of faith producing good and holy vocations for the future. I will next be doing vocations appeals in the Sacred Heart Parish, Carlisle (comprised of the churches of Christ the King and St Margaret Mary) in February. Please continue to pray for vocations - Fr. John Millar Assistant Vocations Director
